BACKGROUND: The war started very quickly. NATO quickly
adopted a convoy system with all its inherent advantages
and disadvantages. Outside of the Straits of Gibraltar
a submarine battle is raging as elements of the Soviet
Northern Fleet attempt to close this strategic choke point.

Convoy GA-09 is forming up outside of "the Rock" waiting for
the waters off the Iberian peninsula to be cleared. The 6th Fleet
has the Fifth Eskadra bottled up in the eastern Mediterranean, except
for Undersea Squadron 55. A wall of ships is all that defends the
convoy.

BLUE ORDERS: Standby to escort Convoy GA-09 through the straits.
It is anticipated that the western approaches to the straits will be
cleared in 12 hours. Setup an ASW patrol for the eastern approaches
to the strait until the convoy is ready to sail.

INTELLIGENCE: There are no Soviet air or surface units in the western
Mediterranean. Be advised that Libya has not declared its position in the
current conflict and may be harboring Soviet units.

MINIMUM VICTORY: Destroy two diesel submarines without losing any
ships of the convoy.

RED ORDERS: A NATO convoy is forming up at Gibraltar. It is expected
to leave within the next 12 hours. Attack and disrupt the convoy before
it comes under the escort of the stronger NATO forces operating on the
Atlantic side of the straits.

INTELLIGENCE: There are currently no NATO ASW air units operating in the
western Mediterranean. The Gibraltar convoy is currently being screened by
two or three British Type 22 FFs.

MINIMUM VICTORY: Destroy at least six ships in the convoy.
